Switzerland

Switzerland’s stunning landscape, varied climate, unique culture and extensive visitor infrastructure have established the country as one of the most desirable European and international destinations.

Switzerland benefits from its strategic location linking Northern and Southern Europe through the Alps. Bordered by Germany in the north, Austria and the Principality of Liechtenstein in the east, Italy in the south and France in the West, Switzerland showcases three important European cultures – German, French and Italian.

Known as a summer and winter sports paradise, Switzerland offers the perfect balance of a sophisticated destination in an unspoiled natural setting that is supported by superior access and economic and political stability. Reputed as one of the safest countries in the world, the diversity of this landlocked, mountainous country is the essence of Switzerland and gives the country its unique identity.

Located in the heart of Europe, Switzerland is the smallest of only 30 countries worldwide to hold a federal structure.

With a land productive area of approximately 31,000 square kilometres or 12,000 miles, the country is home to 7.4 million people, representing just over one thousandth (0.1 per cent) of the global population.

Due to strict regulations on land development and resulting barriers to entry, coupled with Switzerland’s desirable reputation, Swiss real estate has become exceedingly valuable.

The country comprises of 26 cantons, each with its own local government system. Although Switzerland does not belong to the European Union (EU), it is a full member of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). Additionally, Switzerland does not belong to the European Monetary System, yet it is a member of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Switzerland is also a member of a number of international and economic organizations, including the United Nations (UN), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
