HOUSE FOR SALE IN MALTA: 'DAR IL-WIDIEN', XLENDI LIMITS OF MUNXAR. GOZO
Set on a secluded valley within well-kept, enclosed private grounds, yet just a stone's throw from Xlendi bay, an idyllic seaside resort, 'Dar Il-Widien' affords stunning views across Xlendi valley and the surrounding village of Munxar.
This charming old house is built on two levels. On the ground floor level, there is an entrance into a lovely internal courtyard which leads onto a verandah overlooking the verdant valley of Xlendi. On the right one steps into a large room with a fireplace which leads onto a large bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. An ante-room furnished as another bedroom leads on to the lower terrace with spectacular views over the Xlendi Valley. In bygone days, these rooms were used by the owners so as to welcome the more formal guest.
From the courtyard a narrow flight of steps leads down to the wine cellar.
On the left of the entrance a closed staircase leads one the rooms upstairs. Four large rooms open onto south facing arched verandah likewise overlooking Xlendi Valley.
There are two outdoor dining areas to the house. The swimming pool terrace is completely secluded and is set in a local marble paved area surrounded wiht mulitcoloured flowering plants. Mature olive trees planted around the perimeter of the pool terrace compliment the sun decked pool area.
History:
The house is around three hundred years old and most probably it belonged to noble local gentry. This is evidenced by the fact that in one of the upstairs rooms, which nowadays is known as "is-Sala" meaning big room, there was a chapel. In olden times, well off people used to have a private chapel in their homes where the local priest would come and celebrate daily Mass. A lovely garden complete with a swimming pool further complements this splendid property.
Moreover, there is proof that the area in which this property is situated was favoured by wealthy people so much so that in the Lunzjata Valley, which is a little distance away, there still exists a house which rumour has it was the hunting lodge of a GrandMaster of the Order of Saint John. In fact it still is known as "ld-Dar tas-Sultan" meaning the "King's House".
Price 1,291,000 euros.
